Former President Bill Clinton to co-host CBS Early Show?

Bill Clinton
CBS Mornings...
twisted presidential thinking.

Rumor has it
Hillary doesn't
want to wake up
with Bill either.

Clinton on CBS Early Show
Bryant Gumbel is retiring from the CBS Early Show and rumor has it that former President Clinton is being considered as a replacement. Although CBS would skyrocket to number one in the ratings, this would be the most non-presidential thing any former Chief Executive has ever done, and I am hoping the former pres reconsiders.

He needs the work
What kind of work is a former president of the United States qualified to do? A rejuvenated life in politics seems unlikely for Clinton. With the passage of the Twenty-second Amendment, he can not be president again. After Andrew Johnson was president he ran for the Senate, but would Bill want to be a senator and sit at work all day with Hillary? John Quincy Adams was elected to the House of Representatives following his tenure, but Clinton would find himself in the awkward situation of sitting in the same room with the very people who voted his impeachment. Add mayor of New York to the scrap pile - he may not even get the votes from Harlem. Here are some suggestions: Open a library, write memoirs, or get other people elected or re-elected - even if it's you wife. Clinton needs to forget this nonsense of television and focus on stately endeavors.

Do something presidential
Other post-presidents have resisted the celebrity limelight - as should Clinton. Ronald Reagan never considered returning to Hollywood. Gerald Ford would have been a natural on Saturday Night Live, but declined. Jimmy Carter would have made a great stand-up comedian, but he went off to build houses. George Bush could have done TV commercials for the oil industry, but he went off to count his money with the Saudi's. Former presidents should be required by law to do something presidential, even if they didn't achieve the same in office.

Morning woes
Finally, think of the problems CBS would have with the set. No one could smoke a cigar. He could never sit behind a desk. No female guest could ever appear on the show wearing a blue dress. And, thanks to Bill Clinton, CBS would be forced to fire all the interns.

Aaaaaaaarrrrrgh!
