John Quincy Adams, the first
person elected in which there was a popular vote, lost re-election.
The first and only time Congress appointed a committee to
determine an election Rutherford Hayes was named president, but
declined to run again.
Nixon, the first president elected when 18 year olds could vote,
resigned.
Warren Harding, the first president elected when women could
vote, died in office.
1964 was the first time the residents of the District
of Columbia voted. Lyndon Johnson who won the election became
so unpopular he opted not to run for another term.
Franklin Roosevelt, the first president inaugurated when the
