- Grover Cleveland holds the distinction
of being the only person elected to the presidency for two non-consecutive
terms
- He is the only president to marry
at a ceremony at the White House
- The Clevelands also proudly boast
the only child of a president born in the White House proper,
their daughter Esther.
- Between his two terms Cleveland celebrated
the birth of his first child, Ruth
- In honor of the president's daughter
the Nestle Company named their new candy bar, Baby Ruth
- The President was called "Uncle
Jumbo" by family members, sporting a gut he claimed was
the product of good beer and German food
- In 1893, at the start of his second
term, the President was diagnosed with cancer and secretly underwent
an operation to have a portion of his left jaw replaced with
a rubber substitute.
- The operation was held on the presidential
yacht and was not disclosed to the press or even the vice president
until after his term of office.
