- His mother inverted the first two
names stating there were too many Davids in the family
- His nickname was Ike, and ironically
each of the Eisenhower boys were called by the same salutation
- Mr. Eisenhower was surprised when
he received notification he was accepted into West Point, because
he had applied to the Naval Academy
- Applications for both learning institutions
are frequently interchanged by the military dependent upon availability
of class space
- Since Ike had no political affiliation,
both the Democrats and Republicans offered him the nomination
in 1952
- The most notable golfer in the White
House, he would often walk the halls with a pitching wedge in
hand, and chip golf balls from the South Lawn for relaxation
- The USGA installed a complimentary
putting green just outside the Oval Office for the president
- When Ike ran for re-election in 1956
there were bumper stickers issued that read, "Ben Hogan
for president. If we're going to have a golfer - let's have
a good one!

to low eighties
