- The first election returns of a presidential
contest broadcast by KDKA Radio in Pittsburgh, PA announced Warren
Harding as the twenty-ninth President
- He was the first President to own
a radio, and the first heard on the radio when he broadcast a
speech at the Francis Scott Key Memorial, on June 14, 1922
- Harding was the first seated senator
to win the office, followed only by John Kennedy in 1960
- As owner of the Marion Star in
Marion, OH, he was the first newspaper owner elected president
- Most historians consider his administration
as the most corrupt on record, as he openly served alcohol at
the White House during Prohibition while sponsoring no less than
three poker games there per week
- Harding supported at least two mistresses
while regularly taking a hotel room with local prostitutes
- He was a regular at illegal drinking
establishments in the capital and left most of the nation's business
to friends and staff who sold positions in the government to
the highest bidder
- Just before his untimely death, Congress
had begun a full scale investigation of his administration that
probably would have led to his impeachment
- Harding died August 2, 1923 on the
West Coast after a trip to Alaska and Canada; the first President
