- Lyndon Johnson [LBJ] was the first
president to have a bulletproof limousine
- He became president upon the assassination
of John Kennedy in 1963

- In 1964 he was the first to be sworn
in behind bullet-proof glass
- In the same inauguration it also marked
the first time the wife of a president held the Bible during
the searing-in ceremony
- The Johnson years were called, "The
Great Society" and included the creation of the office of
Housing and Urban Development in 1965
- The Twenty-fifth Amendment to the
Constitution was ratified in 1967 allowing for the president
to fill a vacancy in the office of vice president, with consent
of the Senate
- Until then there was no provision
for replacing the vice president - Tyler, Fillmore, A. Johnson
and Arthur did not name a successor to their own office after
being elevated to the presidency upon the death of the incumbent

- Johnson once noted that too many lights
were left on in unoccupied rooms in the White House whereupon
he issued an executive order to "turn off lights in unoccupied
rooms" thus prompting another LBJ an acronym; Light Bulb
