- John Adams was the first vice president
Vice President John Adams
- He was the only president to have
his vice president run against him in an election, therefore
Adams would also be the first President not re-elected
- Adams believed in a strong central
government and was convinced the people were incapable of making
legislative decisions. In accordance with his beliefs he argued
that Congressional seats should be assigned to the first born
of each appointed Senator, and continue as such through the following
generations. The House however continued to select senators until
1920
- John Adsams was the first president
to live in the new White House in Washington, DC [1800]
- Adams claimed he stayed celibate until
marriage because his father told him pre-marital sex caused
venereal disease
- After the British imposed the tax
on tea that led to the Boston Tea Party, he drink only coffee
- Adams and Thomas Jefferson, both died
within hours of each other on the fiftieth anniversary of the
signing of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1826
