- Upon the assassination of William
McKinley, Rough Rider Theodore Roosevelt Vice
President Teddy Roosevelt became the youngest person to serve
as president at age 42 Presidential Assassinations
- John Kennedy was the youngest person
elected in 1960, at age 43
- Following his term of office he was
the only former president who suffered an assassination attempt
when he was shot while speaking in Milwaukee. Assassination
Attempts
- Teddy Roosevelt was concerned that
many young men were being severely injured, and in some cases
killed, as a result of the rough and violent new contact sport
called football
- He petitioned to have the game banned
in the United States, but the sport was too popular
- As a result of his efforts however,
new rules were adopted and safety gear such as helmets were encouraged
- He also unsuccessfully tried to have
"In God We Trust" removed from all U. S. currency
- Preceding Woodrow Wilson, he was the
first of two presidents to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906
for his services in negotiating a treaty between Russia and Japan
at the end of the Russo-Japanese War
- Teddy Roosevelt officially named the
Executive Mansion, The White House by presidential proclamation
in 1901
