- Truman was the third vice president
for Franklin Roosevelt Vice President
Harry Truman and served only a few months in 1945 before
FDR died President Death in Office
- In his bid for election in 1948, he
was dubbed the looser in the election to Thomas Dewey as newspaper
headlines read DEWEY WINS when in fact Truman was the winner
- Once he declared all participants
in an anticipated national rail road strike would be drafted
into the armed services, and thus earned him the name "Give
'em hell Harry"
- When bad reviews appeared in the press
following his daughter Margaret's singing debut in new York,
he threatened to punch the reviewer in the nose
- After Congressman Adam Clayton Powell
called Bess Truman, "The last lady of the United States,"
he was banned from the White House invitation list for the remainder
of the Truman presidency
- In 1950 it was discovered that one
of his daughter's piano legs had broken through the floorboards
on the second floor at the White House
- The Truman's lived in Blair House
until 1953 while the Mansion was renovated
- While at Blair House an assassination
attempt was made on the president Presidential
