- Zachary Taylor was so short, as a
general he had to be helped onto his horse by his orderly
- Following the War of 1812 he retired
and received so many congratulatory telegrams that he asked the
post office to stop delivering mail
- A telegram informing him of the Whig
nomination for president was returned by the mail service
- He learned of his nomination in the
newspaper
- Mr. Taylor was the second President

- After refusing to take the Oath of
