- Teddy Roosevelt casually dated his
childhood friend Edith Carow, but while attending Harvard he
met and married Alice Lee
- Two days after the birth of their
daughter, Alice, Mrs. Roosevelt died from a complicated childbirth
- On the same day he received word his
mother passed away from typhoid fever
- Roosevelt went West for a year, and
after moving back to New York rekindled the relationship with
Edith
- They were married five years later
- The toast of the White House was 16
