  • They met at a country club dance when she was sixteen and he a year older, and have been happily married ever since
  • George's political career kept them on the move to which she stated that the single longest residence they shared was the eight years they lived in the vice presidential mansion.
  • During the presidential campaign she accidentally cut her ankle on the side of the stage that required eight stitches, and refused medical attention until George finished his speech
