LETITIA CHRISTIAN TYLER - John
Tyler 1841-1845
November 12, 1790 - September 10, 1842 [51]
Suffering from paralysis after a stroke, Mrs. Tyler entered the
White House a near-invalid. During her seventeen months as First
Lady she appeared only once in public when she attended the wedding
of her daughter Elizabeth. Within a few months she died from
a second stroke. She had eight children to Tyler. |

CAROLINE SCOTT HARRISON - Benjamin
Harrison 1889-1893
October 1, 1832 - October 25, 1892 [60]
Mrs. Harrison fell ill with tuberculosis and became totally incapacitated
while in the
White House. She died less than a month before her husband Benjmain
lost reelection to the presidency. |

ELLEN AXSON WILSON - Woodrow
Wilson 1913-1921
May 15, 1860 - August 6, 1914 [54]
Inflicted with Brights disease, a kidney disorder, Mrs. Wilson
died at the White House in the second year of her husband's first
term. Her daughter Margaret handled the duties of the White House
until the president remarried in 1915. |
