- Curtis served in Congress for more
than thirty-five years, and when members congratulated "Charlie"
on his victory as vice president, Curtis informed them he was
to be addressed as
"Mr. Vice President"
- He considered himself too refined
to speak to senators and refused to shake hands with Black citizens
- In response to the Great Depression
he openly stated that the citizens were "too damn dumb"
to understand what
was going on
- He insisted that war veterans who
marched on the capitol in request of food and jobs be removed
from the streets, by force if necessary
- The musical play Of Thee I Sing
was released in 1931 that portrayed a bumbling vice president
of the United States, obviously a satire on Curtis
- Curtis and his boss Herbert Hoover
were re soundly defeated in 1932
