while on her death bed, that he would never remarry
- Although he kept his vow, he was highly
criticized for an alleged affair with a slave he owned, Sally

- Jefferson's home, Monticello, which
translates to "Little Mountain" is located in Virginia
and was built with all slave labor
- He served as governor of Virginia,
and founded of the University of Virginia
- Jefferson was the first Secretary
of State, but resigned his position during Washington's second
term
