- President Taft and Vice President
Sherman collectively weighed-in at over 600 pounds
- When Taft took up golf his second
in command followed suit, but was such a poor player the president
quit asking his to join his foursome
- As the two drifted further apart,
Taft found no reason to involve Sherman in day-to-day affairs
of the presidency
- Taft was also falling from grace with
Roosevelt who was critical of his policies
- When Roosevelt ran for the presidency
in 1912, he effectively split the Republican party votes enabling
Wilson to be elected
- Sherman was renominated for the second
spot with Taft, but died one week before the election
- Even though he was dead, Sherman received
three million five hundred thousand votes
