- Tyler was the first vice president
elevated to the office of president through the death of the
incumbent
William Henry Harrison
- There was no clear cut definition
in the Constitution as to the succession process but Tyler insisted
on taking the Oath of Office and thus became the tenth president

- Tyler's term of office as vice president
lasted 31 days therefore there is no real official business to
report
- Originally a Democrat, he switched
affiliations and was nominated by the Whig Party for vice president
largely in part for his open disagreement with President Jackson's
influence with the Democrats
