- Most historians agree that to have
Henry Wallace one heartbeat away from the presidency was quite
a scary thought
- He was hand-picked by FDR for his
running mate in third term as president, but no one except the
president seemed confident in the decision
- Eleanor Roosevelt made a personal
appearance at the convention to convince delegates to give him
the nomination
- His controversial beliefs in Eastern
religions and public statements glorifying the benefits of Soviet
Communism as practiced by Joseph Stalin speak for themselves
- Wallace came from a farming background
and served as secretary of agriculture for Roosevelt
- As secretary he hired Nicholas Roerich
to travel to Mongolia in search of proof that Christ traveled
through the region
- Needless to say the delegates to the
convention in 1944 flatly refused to renominate him,
and with FDR's health in question the country was saved from
his twisted thinking and strange views
- In 1948 he formed his own Progressive
Party and ran for president with Glen "The Singing Cowboy"
Taylor as his vice presidential running mate
