The White House
- The Oval Office
The Oval Office was first constructed during the administration
of
Howard Taft in 1909.
Shortly after Franklin Roosevelt became
president, the location was
moved in 1934 from the center of the West Wing to the Southeast
corner.
The presidential coat of arms appears
in the carpet in front of the desk.
The presidential seal is set into the
ceiling.
Although the president may choose the
furniture for the room, and has a wide variety of desks available
for his use, the flags to either side of the desk always remain
stationary.
As the president sits from his desk,
the American Flag is always positioned to his right while the
Presidents Flag appears on the left.
